The Forestburg and District Museum features a collection of homesteading and agricultural tools, mining memorabilia and an authentic 1920’s kitchen.  The variety of exhibits reflect the heritage of east central rural Alberta.  Curated displays are often changed to complement events that are happening in Forestburg and the surrounding area. As Forestburg celebrates it’s 100th Anniversary in 2019, the museum will be emphasizing early history from 1915-1930, including a large display of musical heritage.  Located in the original Masonic Temple built in 1927, the building is a Municipal Historic Resource and is listed on the Alberta Register of Historic Places, along with the nearby Diplomat Mine Interpretive Centre.  General guided tours and school tours available.  Free admission.  Donations accepted.

DIPLOMAT MINE MUSEUM

8km S on Hwy 855 from Hwy 53

The Diplomat Mine Museum is located 8 km west of Forestburg on Highway 53 and then         8 km south on secondary highway 855.

The interpretive centre is home to the Marion 360, which was the world’s largest mobile land machine in 1927.  It is also home to the Bucyrus-Erie 120-B shovel which was used for loading coal.  Model coal cars, an observation deck to view Paintearth Mine and the Battle River Generating Station, as well as a gazebo are located on the site.  Ample free parking, picnic tables and restrooms are available for visitors’ use.

The annual open house is held the 3rd Sunday of June.  On that day the machines are opened for the public to view and guides are available to answer your questions.  Beef on a bun is served and souvenirs are available.

The Diplomat Mine Museum can be viewed upon request, please contact one of the following if you would like a special viewing or if you would be interested in working with the Diplomat Mine Museum group:
